first THING's first

When you pitch a comix project for an established franchise, you briefly lay out the premise, character motivations and resolve, in one packed page, and draw an image for how you imagine to tackle the company's beloved icon/s.

This was the first time I'd tried a professional hand at drawing my favorite Marvel character, Benjamin J. Grimm aka THE THING [from THE FANTASTIC FOUR]. I learned how to draw his rocky hide much better throughout the 4-issue mini-series; NIGHT FALLS ON YANCY STREET [written by evandorkin], but nothing beats that first, unpublished, raw attempt...



If Marvel were ever to collect the series into one book, I'd want them to dress it up in this image.
