Jonathan Ames: Herring vs Crippler

Dear Kindly People on My Email List,

On Tuesday, July 24th at 8 pm at Gleason's Gym, I will box Craig "the Crippler" Davidson in an exhibition bout. This event is FREE and you are invited, if you'd like to come.

To see a one-minute promotional film by Jennifer Prediger about this match, go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3AlikSn9sM

My fight name -- as it was in 1999 for my last disastrous bout -- is still "The Herring Wonder."

Address: Gleason's, 77 Front Street, Dumbo, Brooklyn. F train to York Street, walk down the hill to Front Street and turn left, or A train to High Street, walk down the hill to Front Street and turn right.

Miss Saturn, hoola-hoop artist, will spin her rings in the ring to start, and Patrick "the Mangina" Bucklew and Valmonte Sprout, who are married, will be the card-girls. I understand that some audience members are coming in costume. I think this is a good idea. So costumes are encouraged, if you are in the mood.

There will be an after-party at Rebar, 147 Front Street.

Why this is happening: Craig Davidson's first novel, THE FIGHTER, has just come out and his publishing house, Soho Press, challenged me to box him to help promote the book. To read more about why I am doing this, you can go to: http://www.jonathanames.com/blog/blogger.html

Tale of the Tape:

Crippler: Ht. 6'1. Weight: 162. Age: 31.

Herring: Ht. 5'10 1/2. Weight: 156. Age 43.

If you live in New York and want to learn how to box or simply want to get in shape, Grant Seligson is a great trainer and can be contacted at: grantsel@earthlink.net

Thank you!

Jonathan Ames
