Cuban artist Inverna Lockpez initially threw herself into Fidel Castro’s revolution jettisoning her plans for art school in Havana and instead studying medicine. Lockpez fled to the US in the late 60s and became an established sculptor and painter. She later ran afoul of the regime and was arrested and tortured. Now for the first time she’s telling her story with the help of illustrator Dean Haspiel. The two created a semi-autobiographical graphic novel titled “Cuba: My Revolution.” Anchor Lisa Mullins interviews Inverna Lockpez about her story.
